About Yurij Yarin

Yurij Yarin

Yurij Yarin was born in 1958 in Moscow. In 1980 he graduated from the Moscow Textile University, and since 1981 has been a member of the Union of Moscow artists. He specializes in painting, graphics, sculpture, mosaic and photography.

Since 1986 he has worked extensively in mosaics and mosaic techniques. He has created mosaic icons for Pühtitsa Convent (Estonia), Zion cathedral in Tbilisi (Georgia) (in cooperation with A. Kornoukhov), the churches of St. Thomas, Transfiguration and St. Nicholas in Balashikha(a town near Moscow), the church of St. Nicolas in Zelenograd near Moscow, the cathedral in Kuopio (Finland), the New Valamo Monastery in Finland, and also for private individuals.

In 1998 Yurij Yarin initiated what has become an annual workshop of courses on mosaic art in the Lay Academy at the New Valamo Monastery in Finland. In 2002 on the basis of these courses the Society of Mosaicists of the Petros Sosaki was established in Kuopio, and he continues to offer his courses there annually.




EXIBITIONS

Since 1981 – Participant in the Moscow city and international exhibitions.

2005 – «The Everlasting Moment», photography. The Art Gallery, Kustavi, Finland (together with Tuulikki Likitalo).

2006 – Exhibition of mosaic icons. The Provincial Museum / Saimaa Museum, Savonlinna, Finland.

2006 February – «The space of Freedom», painting, drawing, mosaic. Orthodox Church museum / Suomen ortodoksinen kirkkomuseo, Kuopio, Finland.

2006 June – The same exhibition, staged in The Emil Cedercreutz Museum and Cultural Centre / Emil Cedercreutzin Museo, Harjavalta, Finland.

2007–2008 – Exhibition of mosaic art. New Valamo Monastery, Heinävesi, Finland.

Yurij Yarin’s works exist in private collections of Russia, USA, France, Spain, England, Finland and Sweden.
